Department of Science

The Department of Science offers courses designed for the student with special interest in this area as well as general educational development. Science courses are offered at all grade levels but prerequisite courses are essential for enrollment after the freshman level.

SCI. 1132: Physics 

SCI. 1132: Physics

Credits: 1

Level: Junior or Senior

Prerequisite: Two units of math (Alg. I & Geometry)

It is the study of energy, energy forms, and energy transformations with heavy emphasis on laboratory application and problem solving. Topics which are included are (1) forces and their interactions (2) motion (3) heat and work (4) light and electricity. This course is recommended for college bound students.

Prerequisite: Biology with at least B average or Chemistry with at least a B average and teacher recommendation.

This college preparatory course is designed for students who wish to continue their studies in science-related fields such as engineering, dentistry, pharmacy, or medicine. This course incorporates several disciplines including chemistry, physics, genetics, and anatomy. By the end of the course, the students will be able to recognize and apply connections of important information and ideas within and among these learning areas. The fetal pig will be dissected, in detail, relating it to ten systems of comparative anatomy. There will be a $5.00 lab fee for each student.

This course includes one semester of inorganic chemistry with emphasis on reviewing and applying fundamental concepts of matter and changes in composition of matter and applied laboratory skills, and one semester of organic chemistry and biochemistry
